<![CDATA[BBAG artist Janet Wildey answers Southampton Gallery call....]]>Wed, 29 Jun 2022 14:30:36 GMThttps://bournemouthbayart.co.uk/blog/bbag-artist-janet-wildey-answers-southampton-gallery-callJanet has been successful with two entries to the Southampton Gallery call for entries on the subject "What does culture mean to you?"
Janet's entries are shown below and will be on show at Southampton Art Gallery from 02 July until 10 September 2022.
Southampton took this approach to the issue of culture as part of its bid to become UK City of Culture in 2025, which unfortunately they did not win this time round.

All residents of Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Wiltshire and Dorset were invited to submit their artwork for the City Art Gallery’s biennial ‘open exhibition.

Entrants were encouraged to consider the theme of culture as creatively and widely as possible and submit work in both 2-D and 3-D form in any medium including painting, photography, drawing, original prints, mixed media, textile, sculpture and video. See here for more information on this exhibition.

"I live in Wareham and my paintings are mainly of local scenes, produced plein air and finished in my home studio. I love to paint the beauty of the natural environment and to create a calm and reflective view of life. My main artistic influences are the Impressionist period and also the Newlyn artists from 1880 onwards.
Over the past year my paintings have allowed me to escape the rest of the world and to describe scenes in hopefully a poetical way. The paintings have become larger in size and slightly more Abstract Expressionist in style.
I always enjoy painting plein-air when possible, even if it is only in my garden. Most of my work is now acrylic or mixed medium as it is more practical to use on a larger scale, using just oil paint in the studio".
